15th July 2010 - New Urology Service in the Specialist Medical Clinic

The Specialist Medical Group Ltd is delighted to welcome Mr Laurence Stewart  MD, FRCS, FRCS (Urol) and Mr Ammar Alhasso MBChB, MSc, FRCSEd, FRCSEd (Urol) of Edinburgh Urology Specialists to the  Specialist Medical Clinic in the ICC  Building Gibraltar. Both are consultant specialists from the Edinburgh University NHS Hospitals’ urology team and from the 22nd July 2010 will be seeing private patients in Gibraltar on a regular basis.

As fully trained and UK accredited consultant urologists Mr Stewart and Mr Alhasso will provide patients with a high quality service in a relaxed and empathetic manner. Both specialists utilise the latest evidence based investigative pathways and in accordance with the highest UK standards, provide clear and concise explanations of their diagnosis and treatment plans.
Mr Stewart graduated from Aberdeen University Medical School. He trained in urology in Aberdeen, Belfast, New Zealand and Duke University, USA. He was awarded his MD doctorate in the field of bladder cancer in 1994 and has written a number of chapters in core surgical text books. He is the convenor of the core skills in urology course at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and until 2007 he was the lead clinician in urology in Edinburgh during which time he introduced minimal access urological surgery, laser prostatectomy and specialist treatments for incontinence.
Mr Alhasso gained his urology training in Scotland and his Masters degree in Surgical Science in (also in the field of bladder cancer) from Imperial College School of Medicine, London in 2000.  He has an active teaching role at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and is the urology module organiser for the Edinburgh University Medical School.
The surgeons will start visiting Gibraltar on the 22nd July 2010 and will hold monthly outpatient clinics at the Specialist Medical Clinic. They will be performing surgical procedures in both Gibraltar and Spain, working closely with the clinic’s established surgical team to provide a discreet service and expert advice on all urological conditions. Mr Stewart and Mr Alhasso are happy to see both male and female patients with any urological condition including blood in the urine, urinary problems, urogynaecology, catheter problems, urinary tract infections, urinary tract stones, pain in the loin, bladder, testicle or prostate, urinary incontinence, penile problems, erectile dysfunction, family planning and scrotal lumps and swellings. A second opinion service is also available.
